A gang of armed robbers on Thursday hijacked a bullion van belonging to the United Bank for Africa, carting away an undisclosed amount of cash in the process.
Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the bullion van was attacked by the gang along Otor-Owhe on the Ughelli-Asaba road, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The robbers shot sporadically and seized the van as bullets bore holes on the vehicle’s windscreen.
A resident confirmed to newsmen that the robbers operated without any challenge from security operatives.
However, the Delta state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident, said there was no casualty.
He said, “Yes, the bullion van was attacked, but no casualty was recorded. I am waiting for an official report from the DPO to ascertain the true incident. But nobody died in the operation and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.”
Edafe noted that the hoodlums only carted away condemned currencies “but escaped with gunshot injuries after a gun duel with our men.”
