In a powerful demonstration of concern for their safety, pupils of Osusu Primary School in Aba, Abia State, took to the streets to protest the increasing number of accidents occurring in front of their school. The children, visibly concerned, are urging the Abia State Government to take urgent action before more lives are lost.
The protest comes in response to the alarming number of traffic accidents near the school, which has resulted in injuries and fatalities over the past months. The pupils are calling for the installation of speed breakers and zebra crossings to reduce the speed of traffic and ensure safer crossing for pedestrians, particularly for schoolchildren.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the students marched through the streets, demanding that the authorities act quickly. “Save our lives!” and “Speed breakers now!” were some of the key messages on their signs.
Local residents and parents of the pupils have also expressed their support for the protest, with many sharing their frustration over the lack of proper traffic control measures in the area. They argue that the absence of these measures has made the area a hotspot for frequent accidents, putting the lives of children and other pedestrians at risk.
“We need action now,” said one of the protesting students. “We can’t wait for more accidents to happen.”
