Funke Awolowo, the late Obafemi Awolowo’s granddaughter, has resigned from her position on the Lagos State Labour Party Executive Committee.
Prior to her resignation, Awolowo served as the head of the party’s Lagos mobilization and integration team.
In a statement announcing her resignation, she claimed that recent events within the party had made it more and more difficult for her to remain a member of the committee.
She signed the declaration and sent it to the party’s Lagos State Chairman, Dayo Ekong, stating that the committee’s integrity was being jeopardized and that the incident had tarnished her name.
“I am writing to formally resign my position as a member of the Lagos State Executive Committee, effective immediately.
“This decision comes after deep reflection and considerable personal introspection. Recent developments have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue in this role in good conscience.
“I have observed with growing concern that the integrity of the committee is being compromised and, regrettably, is being leveraged for purposes that conflict with the values and principles I hold dear.
“More troubling is the damage this has done to my personal reputation, as my name has been unfairly associated with actions and motives that I neither support nor condone,” the statement read.
She stated that her dedication to public service and the political process is unwavering even though she has stepped down from her position.
Four months after she urged all supporters of a New Nigeria, Obidients, Afenifere, and Support Groups to join as a one force, ZINGTIE reported that she resigned from her position in the Labour Party.
