Ariana Grande Could Match An All-Time Grammy Record

When the Grammy nominations are revealed later this year, there’s a very good chance that Ariana Grande will hear her name more than once. The singer scored a new No. 1 album and several chart-topping singles in this eligibility period, and it’s entirely possible that all of her hits will become nominees.

Grande’s latest full-length Eternal Sunshine is also likely headed for at least one nod, if not a handful. The title stands a great shot at being nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, a category that the singer already knows well.

If Eternal Sunshine does end up competing for Best Pop Vocal Album–which at this point seems highly likely–she’ll make history. The set will mark Grande’s sixth chance to win the coveted trophy, which is often considered one of the most difficult to claim.

If—or maybe when—she nabs her sixth Best Pop Vocal Album nomination, Grande will tie the current record for the most times being up for the honor. That bit of history is currently owned by Kelly Clarkson. The singer and TV host doesn’t have a collection out yet, so it seems unlikely she’ll be in the running this time around.

Grande has won Best Pop Vocal Album just once before. She earned the trophy for her Sweetener project half a decade ago. It marked her first time coming out on top, and she’ll surely be looking to double that sum at the upcoming ceremony.

The superstar may not be the only musician to match Clarkson this year. Taylor Swift has also been nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album five times throughout her career. Her latest effort The Tortured Poets Department is another powerful contender, and it will almost certainly be included in the running alongside Grande.

The two pop singers may make the same history at the same time. Nothing is confirmed until the list of nominees is released by the Recording Academy, but as both Eternal Sunshine and The Tortured Poets Department are two of the biggest pop drops of this eligibility period, it would be odd to see them left out.

Eligibility for the 2025 Grammys runs from September 16, 2023 through August 30, 2024. The nominees will be named on November 8, and the sixty-seventh annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025.
