CAF Champions League Group Stages: 16 Teams Confirmed

There will be a strong South African presence in the CA Champions League group stages after all the preliminary rounds were completed this weekend.

Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, of course, booked their places with comfortable aggregate wins over Mbabane Swallows and Jwaneng Galaxy respectively.

But several other clubs where South Africans are plying their trade also advanced.

Percy Tau and defending champions Al Ahly made light work of Kenyan side Gor Mahia, winning 6-0 on aggregate. Tau scored a brace in the first leg 3-0 win.

Egypt’s Pyramids FC, where Fagrie Lakay plays, also advanced, winning their tie 4-2 against APR.

There was also a mammoth 12-1 aggregate for ES Tunis over Dekedaha. Elias Mokwana is on the books of the Tunisian giants.

Khanyisa Mayo was involved as CR Belouizdad won 1-0 in the second leg to make it 1-1 against AS Douanes, and Belouizdad booked their place after a penalty shootout.
