With the group stage of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers set to resume, Nigeria’s group opponent, Rwanda, faces a setback following the resignation of head coach Frank Spittler.
Spittler unexpectedly stepped down from his role on Monday morning. Having led the team for several years, Spittler has revitalized Rwandan football, positioning the team at the top of their 2026 World Cup qualifier group and performing reasonably well in their 2025 AFCON qualifier group.
The reasons behind Spittler’s decision to resign remain unclear. However, he has confirmed that he will not renew his contract, which expires at the end of October 2024.
Rwanda is scheduled to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on the final matchday of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in Uyo.
