The representative of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Honourable Wole Oke, has revealed that he was the financial backbone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State for a period spanning 12 years.
According to reports, Oke, who is serving his sixth term in the National Assembly, recently resigned from the PDP in a letter dated April 16, 2025. The letter was directed to the PDP Ward 7 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
His departure has sparked mixed reactions, with some party members alleging that his exit was due to the party’s decision not to grant him the ticket for a potential seventh term in the legislature.
However, during a radio interview on a private station in Osogbo on Thursday, Oke stated that the Nigerian Constitution does not restrict the number of terms a lawmaker can serve at the federal level.
He further claimed that he was made a scapegoat by the PDP for the sake of liberating the constituency, emphasizing that he had made significant contributions to the party’s growth over the years.
Although Oke did not disclose the political party he intends to align with next, he expressed readiness to serve in whatever capacity he is assigned in his new political home.
According to him, “The Constitution places no limit. Why didn’t you ask the governor not to run for a second term? Why can’t you ask Fadahunsi not to run for Senate? These are my fundamental rights. If I want to run for any election, I will go for it. Two things are likely to happen. It’s either I win or I fail.
“Wherever I go, whatever they think I deserve, they will give me. There are positions in the Executive side. If you give me the chairman of FIRS today, I will resign from the parliament. If you give me the Managing Director of NIMASA position today, I will leave the parliament. Even if you give me councillorship position, I will take it.
“It takes so much for the party to say they want me and let me tell you, they use me as a sacrificial lamb to wage war to liberate that area. I financed this party for 12 years. Every year, I bring trailers of goodies. There is no leader in Osun PDP that I don’t have his account details.
“I stood with the party. I parted with my late brother, Soji Adagunodo because I insisted that the Adeleke’s should get the governorship ticket.”
