Ribadu Hosts U.S. Lawmakers, Calls for Stronger Security Ties

National Security Adviser (NSA) Malam Nuhu Ribadu on Sunday received a United States Congressional delegation in Abuja, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing its strategic security cooperation with Washington.

In a post on his official X handle, Ribadu said the visit builds on earlier engagements held in Washington, D.C., where both sides explored ways to advance shared security priorities.

He noted that the lawmakers’ visit reflects the importance Nigeria and the U.S. place on sustained collaboration in promoting stability across the region.

“This morning, I received a U.S. Congressional delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, following our earlier engagements in Washington, D.C., on shared security priorities.

“Our discussions centred on counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening the Nigeria–U.S. strategic security partnership,” Ribadu said.

The delegation included Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, Rep. Norma Torres, Rep. Scott Franklin, Rep. Juan Ciscomani and Rep. Riley Moore, accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills.

Ribadu expressed optimism that the meeting would pave the way for deeper collaboration.

“I’m confident this engagement will strengthen trust, cooperation, and our shared commitment to peace and security,” he added.
