Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, brother of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the governorship election under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to serve only one term if elected.
Fubara made the declaration ahead of the party’s primary activities, where he said he was offering himself as a capable and experienced candidate committed to restoring peace, economic prosperity and political stability in Rivers State.
The governorship aspirant said the state had lost its place as one of Nigeria’s leading economic hubs and called for collective action by Rivers people to reclaim what he described as the state’s lost glory.Fubara said he was offering himself as a “ready, competent, and energetic” candidate to “restore the soul of Nigeria and restore the soul of Rivers State.”
Fubara cited what he described as the impoverishment of Rivers people and the loss of investment, dignity, and opportunities in the state. He called for a total uprising across party lines, ethnic groups, and political affiliations to “take over our state and return our dear Rivers State to the zenith of the state as it was known, as the treasure base of the nation.”
The aspirant contrasted the state’s past reputation for economic prosperity with its current distressed condition.“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that is almost seeming like a conquered state. No. We are not conquered people,” he said.
Fubara appealed to supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to participate actively in the party primaries, claiming to enjoy the backing of over two million card-carrying NDC members statewide.
The aspirant also pledged to serve only a single four-year term in office, saying the decision was necessary to preserve the state’s senatorial rotation arrangement. Fubara added that his administration would focus on restoring peace, encouraging investment and driving development across the state if elected governor.
The NDC primaries are ongoing nationwide ahead of the next round of governorship election.
