Chad to Scrap Entry Visas for all Africans From January 2027 in boost for Continental free Movement

The government of Chad has announced that it will abolish entry visa requirements for all African citizens beginning in January 2027, marking a significant step toward promoting regional integration and easier movement across the continent.

The policy is expected to allow citizens of all African countries to enter Chad without obtaining a visa in advance, making travel for business, tourism, education, and family visits more accessible. Authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, increasing trade, and encouraging investment among African nations.

The decision aligns with broader efforts by the African Union (AU) to promote the free movement of people under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other regional integration initiatives. Supporters believe removing visa barriers will help deepen economic ties, create new opportunities for businesses, and foster stronger people-to-people connections across Africa.

If successfully implemented, Chad will join a growing number of African countries that have adopted visa-free or visa-on-arrival policies for fellow Africans as part of efforts to improve intra-African travel.

The visa-free policy is scheduled to take effect in January 2027, with the Chadian government expected to release detailed implementation guidelines, including entry procedures and security measures, before the launch date.
