President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to cancel fees charged for the verification of certificates by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The call is focused on reducing the financial burden on Nigerians who need to verify their academic credentials for employment, admission, international opportunities and other official purposes.

Those backing the move argue that additional verification charges can make the process more difficult, particularly for young Nigerians seeking jobs or opportunities abroad.

The appeal comes amid wider concerns over the rising cost of education and the financial pressures facing students and graduates.

Tinubu has previously spoken about supporting access to education, including a 2022 pledge that his administration would pay WAEC examination fees for Nigerian children.

Supporters of the latest call are therefore asking the Federal Government to go further by reviewing or eliminating WAEC certificate verification fees and making the process more affordable and accessible to Nigerians.
