South korean Actor kim Soo Hyun Wins ₩577m Lawsuit

South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has secured a final victory in a legal dispute involving an advertising contract worth approximately ₩577 million (about US$430,000).

The lawsuit was filed by Swiss watch brand Mido, which sought the return of part of the advertising fee paid to Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist. The company had worked with the actor since 2020 before terminating the contract following controversies surrounding his private life.

Mido argued that the controversy had damaged Kim Soo Hyun’s commercial value and sought approximately ₩577 million corresponding to the remaining period of the advertising contract.

However, the Seoul Eastern District Court’s 13th Civil Division dismissed Mido’s claims on August 27, 2026. The company had until September 10 to appeal but did not do so, making the ruling final.

As a result, Kim Soo Hyun and his agency will not be required to return the ₩577 million sought by the advertiser.

The decision marks the first final ruling among several legal disputes involving advertising contracts connected to the actor. Other companies have also pursued legal claims against Kim Soo Hyun and his agency.

Despite the legal challenges, the actor has begun resuming professional activities, including overseas advertising work and other scheduled appearances.
