Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former Sokoto State governor, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing the move to the protracted internal crisis and leadership disputes within the party.
Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, disclosed this in a letter addressed to his ward chairman in Sokoto State on Thursday.
In the letter, he said persistent divisions, legal battles and leadership tussles within the PDP had made it increasingly difficult for him to remain a member of the party.

According to him, the internal wrangling has weakened the unity and sense of direction that once defined the party.“The PDP’s internal crisis has made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party,” he said. He added that the situation compelled him to formally withdraw from the party.
Tambuwal also revealed that he had joined the ADC alongside several of his political associates and supporters.
He explained that his decision to align with the ADC was informed by his belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform anchored on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to national development.
Despite his departure, the former governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him throughout his political career.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as governor of Sokoto State,” he said.
