European leaders gathered in Kyiv to show strong support for Ukraine as the country marked its 35th Independence Day, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy receiving fresh pledges of military and political backing amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The celebrations were attended by key European allies, while no representatives from the United States attended the ceremony.

Reports said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner did not take part in the Independence Day events, highlighting Europe’s growing role in supporting Kyiv.

During the event, Ukraine’s allies reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the country’s air defences and supporting its domestic weapons production.

Britain and France also announced further cooperation aimed at helping Ukraine develop and produce long-range missile technology.

Zelenskyy used the occasion to stress that Ukraine wants peace but will not surrender its sovereignty or territory. European leaders also repeated their commitment to stand with the country as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The show of unity came as Ukraine marked another Independence Day under the shadow of war, with European support becoming increasingly important as uncertainty continues over the future role of the United States in the conflict.
