Gas Explosion in Calabar: Victims Rise to 60 as Health Officials Respond

The number of people affected by the recent gas explosion in Calabar has increased to 60, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The incident, which occurred on Saturday in Calabar, left dozens injured, prompting an urgent response from emergency services and health authorities.

 

Speaking during an inspection visit to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), the Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, confirmed that 60 victims are currently receiving treatment at the facility.

Dr Ayuk noted that medical teams are working round the clock to stabilize the injured, many of whom sustained burns and other serious injuries. He assured that the state government is providing necessary support to ensure that victims receive adequate care.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the explosion caused widespread panic in the area, with residents rushing to safety as emergency responders arrived at the scene.

The exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and adhere to safety guidelines while efforts continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
