Tinubu absent as Akpabio inaugurates Lagos projects — presidency cites security priorities
Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday to inaugurate three infrastructure projects in Lagos.
Akpabio inaugurated the Ojora-Opebi link bridge, the Lagos Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex.Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, in a statement, said the projects are aimed at improving mobility, land administration, and public service delivery in the state.
Sanwo-Olu described the Ojora-Opebi link bridge as a major intervention in one of the busiest transport corridors in Lagos, noting that it is expected to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and improve daily commuting for residents. He added that the LAGIS building will enhance transparency and efficiency in land administration by moving away from manual, paper-based processes.
The governor also said the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex will bring key government services under one roof, improve coordination among agencies, and create a better working environment for public servants.
“With just over 400 days left in this administration, we remain focused on making every day count,” the statement reads.
“Out of the 2,922 days Lagosians entrusted to us, we have spent more than 2,500 working to leave Lagos better than we met it.”
Sanwo-Olu thanked engineers, contractors, and public servants involved in the projects, adding that his administration will continue to prioritise initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents.
‘WHY TINUBU DIDN’T PERSONALLY INAUGURATE SANWO-OLU’S PROJECTS’
Meanwhile, the presidency has explained why Tinubu was absent from the inauguration of projects on Wednesday in Lagos despite being in the state.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication, confirmed that Tinubu is currently in Lagos.
Dare said the president prioritises security matters over attending the inauguration of projects.
He said Tinubu has been very busy receiving constant security briefs from the intelligence community.
“President Tinubu is in Lagos. Beyond the pictures, the president has been very busy with state matters,” Dare said.
“In the last 10 days, right from the developments in Jos, the president has been busy taking constant briefs, and he has to prioritise when it comes to state matters, especially security.
“He is in Lagos monitoring the development, working with the intelligence community, and taking constant security briefs.”
On Tuesday, the Lagos government announced partial road closures in parts of the state for the inauguration of infrastructure projects by Tinubu.
The state government had said Tinubu would inaugurate the Opebi-Mende link bridge on Wednesday between 9am and 1pm.
