Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Safe School Initiative in the Anambra State Command have arrested a suspect, identified as Eric Nwombu, over alleged impersonation and unlawful possession of examination materials.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga. Items Recovered from Suspect According to the police, officers recovered eight examination slips belonging to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), alongside an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of candidates.
The suspect was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding how he came into possession of the materials. Arrest Following Tip-Off Police said Nwombu was apprehended after staff at a cyber café in Atani raised concerns about his activities.
He had allegedly been collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from candidates who visited the centre to check their examination details, claiming to be a coordinator for the examination in the area. Suspicion grew among the café operators, who subsequently alerted the authorities.
Upon the arrival of police officers, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. Investigation Ongoing Authorities confirmed that preliminary investigations are underway, with the case set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further inquiry.
