GOVERNOR OTTI ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT OF SURVEYS FOR PROPOSED OBEAKU SEAPORT IN ABIA
The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has announced the commencement of preliminary surveys for the proposed Obeaku Seaport project, a development aimed at boosting economic activities and enhancing the state’s position as a major commercial hub in Nigeria.
Speaking during an official engagement in the state, Governor Otti disclosed that technical teams and relevant agencies have begun conducting feasibility studies and site surveys to determine the viability of the proposed seaport located in Obeaku, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to the governor, the project is part of his administration’s broader strategy to attract investments, create jobs, improve transportation infrastructure, and stimulate industrial growth across the state. He noted that the proposed seaport, when completed, would complement existing transportation networks and provide businesses with easier access to regional and international markets.
Governor Otti emphasized that the survey phase is a critical step in the planning process, as it will provide the necessary data for environmental assessments, engineering designs, and other regulatory requirements needed before construction can begin.
The governor also assured residents and stakeholders that the project would be executed in line with environmental and social impact standards, while ensuring that host communities benefit from the economic opportunities expected to accompany the development.
The proposed Obeaku Seaport is expected to strengthen trade and logistics operations in the South-East region, reduce pressure on existing ports, and open new opportunities for commerce, manufacturing, and export activities.
Stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a potentially transformative project capable of accelerating economic development and attracting both local and foreign investments to Abia State.
Further details regarding the survey findings, project timeline, and funding arrangements are expected to be released as the planning process progresses.
