Families of Malaysians still missing following the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal are seeking detailed updates on search-and-rescue (SAR) operations as Malaysia’s Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) returns home.
The families want authorities to provide clear information on what was discovered during the rescue mission and what further steps will be taken to locate their missing relatives. The calls come as 55 Malaysians remain unaccounted for following the disaster.
SMART was deployed to Nepal as part of Malaysia’s humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief efforts after devastating floods and landslides struck the Nepal-China border region. The team conducted search operations in areas affected by the disaster before preparing to return to Malaysia.
Despite the team’s return, families continue to hope that searches for their loved ones will not stop. Some relatives have specifically appealed for the search to continue and for authorities to keep them informed about developments.
Malaysian authorities have maintained that efforts to establish the whereabouts of the missing citizens are still ongoing, while families remain anxious for answers and continue to hope for news of their loved ones.
