At least 27 people have died and 63 others have been injured, including 22 critically, after a massive fire tore through the popular Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district just before midnight.
According to Thai authorities, the blaze spread rapidly after smoke was reportedly seen near a circuit breaker close to the stage, followed by a power outage and an explosion. Many victims were found in restrooms at the back of the venue, with officials investigating whether limited escape routes contributed to the high death toll.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, while rescue teams continue identifying victims and assisting families. Thailand’s Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over fire safety standards at entertainment venues in Thailand, which has witnessed several deadly nightclub fires over the past two decades.
