Anambra-born Mother Earns first Class Honours in uk, Shares inspiring journey of Resilience
An Anambra-born Nigerian, Blessing Okoye, has achieved academic excellence by graduating with First Class Honours in Business and Management from the University of Portsmouth during the institution’s July 2026 graduation ceremony.

Originally from Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State and married to Ikechukwu Ekweli of Awka, Blessing’s remarkable achievement is the culmination of years of perseverance, resilience and determination.
Growing up, she faced significant hardships, including walking barefoot to primary school and enduring discouraging remarks from people who predicted she would end up selling peppers at Eke Awka Market. Despite these challenges, she remained focused on her education and future.
Her journey became even more demanding after relocating to the United Kingdom, where she balanced university studies with work, pregnancy and motherhood.
Through dedication, discipline and faith, she successfully completed her degree with the highest academic distinction.
Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Blessing described her graduation as “God’s grace made visible” and said earning a First Class degree represents much more than academic success.
According to her, the achievement stands as proof that every sacrifice, challenge and difficult moment she experienced was worthwhile.
She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to fulfil her dream and encouraged women, especially mothers, never to believe that having children marks the end of their aspirations.
Blessing also used the opportunity to speak about the realities faced by Nigerian students studying abroad, highlighting the importance of resilience, proper planning and determination.
She believes education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and creating better opportunities for individuals, families and society.
Her inspiring story continues to motivate many Nigerians, demonstrating that with faith, hard work and perseverance, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve academic and personal success on the global stage.
