Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, January 13, 2025 impeached its Speaker Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa by 32 members.

This development came amid allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against him.

According to reports, the embattled Speaker was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Obasa has been accused of spending N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent.

There have also been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.

Meanwhile, Hon. Mojisola Meranda has emerged as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

This development came after the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency I, was previously the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

She has been a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly for three consecutive terms, starting from 2015.

With her new role, Meranda is expected to lead the House and ensure the passage of laws that benefit the people of Lagos.
