The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has concluded arrangements for Saturday’s by-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states of the federation.A statement on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, said all logistics for the exercise had been put in place.
He said with less than 48 hours to the opening of polls, the Commission was appealing to political parties, candidates, agents, supporters, voters, observers, the media, and security agencies to strictly follow the law, regulations, and guidelines for the elections.According to him, all non-sensitive materials have been delivered to the states, while election technology, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), has been fully configured. He added that the final batch of sensitive materials would be delivered as scheduled on Thursday.
Olumekun urged all stakeholders to avoid actions that could disrupt the process, stressing that the will of the people must prevail.
The elections will hold in two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo States; five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States; and nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, two in Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, and Zamfara States. Court-ordered re-runs will also be conducted in Enugu South I State Constituency and Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency in Kano State.Olumekun also announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) would resume soon, with online pre-registration starting on August 18, 2025, and physical registration opening on August 25, 2025, at 811 centres nationwide.
