Democracy has not failed Nigeria, Nigerian leaders have — Gov. Alex Otti.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stated that democracy is not responsible for Nigeria’s challenges, insisting that the country’s problems stem from poor leadership rather than the democratic system itself.

Speaking during a public engagement, Otti argued that democracy remains the best form of government because it gives citizens the power to choose their leaders and hold them accountable. According to him, the failure of some leaders to deliver good governance should not be mistaken for a failure of democracy.

“Democracy has not failed Nigeria; Nigerian leaders have,” Otti said, stressing that effective leadership, transparency, and accountability are essential for national development.

The governor noted that many of Nigeria’s economic and social difficulties could be addressed through responsible leadership, proper management of public resources, and policies focused on the welfare of citizens.

He urged political office holders at all levels to prioritize service to the people and work towards rebuilding public trust in government institutions. Otti also called on Nigerians to remain actively involved in the democratic process by demanding accountability from elected officials and participating in governance.

His remarks have sparked discussions among political observers and citizens on the role of leadership in shaping the country’s future and strengthening democratic institutions.
