Ebonyi monarch shot dead in his palace

Unknown Gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Ishinkwor community, Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, HRH Jesophat Ikegwu.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in his palace.

 

Sources in the community told News Express that the gunmen invaded Ikegwu’s palace and shot him through the window.

 

Chairman of the local government, Ikechukwu Ogbofia, who confirmed the killing, condemned the incident.

 

He said police was investigating the killings and urged the people of the community to remain calm.

 

Ikegwu’s killing bring the total number of monarchs recently killed in the state to five.

 

Last month, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community, Ikwo Local Government Area was killed after he was abducted. His body was set ablaze by the kidnappers.

 

About nine suspects were arrested in connection to the crime but nothing has been heard about them.

 

When contacted, the police Public Relations officer of Ebonyi command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident.
