FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup: Nigeria’s Flamingos lose to France

FULL-TIME

🇳🇬 Nigeria Flamingos 0–1 France U17 🇫🇷

A late strike from Maïssa Fathallah (81’) sealed the win for France after a tense, hard-fought encounter in Salé.

Despite a late spirited performance and moments of promise from the Flamingos, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

There’s still a faint ray of hope for the Flamingos 🇳🇬 to advance as one of the best third-placed teams, but their fate will ultimately be decided by the outcome of Saturday’s clash against Samoa 🇼🇸.

Two consecutive defeats for the Flamingos of Nigeria, a truly disappointing outcome. 💔🇳🇬

It’s painful to see that several key players who actually fought hard and secured Nigeria’s qualification for the U17 World Cup weren’t given the opportunity to represent the nation on the big stage.

Instead, we’re witnessing a lineup that looks far from the level expected, players struggling with basic control, poor passing accuracy, and little tactical cohesion.

One can’t help but question the selection process.

How did the coach arrive at these choices? It’s difficult to ignore the signs of favoritism and questionable judgment in team selection, leaving some of the most talented and deserving players back home.

When merit is ignored and excellence sacrificed for bias, this is the unfortunate outcome , national disappointment and embarrassment on the global stage.

Until Nigerian football embraces transparency, fairness, and merit-driven decisions, these painful results will only repeat themselves.
