Former ARISE news anchor constance ikokwu named obi-kwankwaso campaign spokesperson

Former ARISE News anchor, Dr. Constance Ikokwu, has been appointed campaign spokesperson for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her appointment was contained in the list of appointments released by the party as it unveiled its national campaign structure to mobilise support for the joint presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Ikokwu brings more than two decades of experience in journalism, political communication and media strategy to her new role.

Her professional career includes serving as Washington, D.C., bureau chief and deputy editor at THISDAY Newspapers, as well as working as a political analyst and anchor at ARISE News.

She also has experience in international affairs and strategic communications, having served as an adviser to former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Okechukwu Enelamah.

Ikokwu holds a PhD in Journalism and Communications, with research focusing on the intersection of media and politics.

In her new position, she will help communicate the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket’s positions, explain the campaign’s messages and engage the media on the party’s policies, programmes and priorities.

Her appointment comes as the NDC strengthens its communications team and prepares for nationwide political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party has constituted a National Campaign Council to coordinate campaign activities across the country and mobilise Nigerians around its vision of building a new, just and prosperous Nigeria.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the party’s national leader, was named chairman of the campaign council, while Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, will serve as co-chairman.

The party’s national chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, was appointed vice-chairman, while Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate, will serve as co-vice-chairman.

Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim was appointed director-general of the presidential campaign, while Osa Director, the party’s national publicity secretary, will serve as director of communication and media.

The appointments form part of the party’s preparations to organise its campaign machinery, strengthen public engagement and present its agenda to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ikokwu’s experience in journalism and strategic communications is expected to contribute to the campaign’s media engagement as the party works to communicate its positions and priorities to voters.
