Jane’s Fashion is 2024 designer

Jane’s Fashion, owned by Nigerian fashion sensation, Osasogie Idemudia, has made history by clinching the prestigious Fashion Designer of the Year award at the African Fashion and Arts Awards.

The event which held in Cape Town International Convention Center, South Africa from November  6 to 8 saw the talented designer display her Forever Living Collection and got standing ovation.

“Winning this award is truly surreal and humbling.

It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of my team and a recognition of the power of storytelling through fashion,” the fashion designer said, expressing her excitement. Idemudia’s victory is not just a personal achievement but a significant milestone for Nigerian fashion.

She believes it symbolizes the nation’s vibrant creative spirit and showcases the innovation and resilience of African designers.

“This win is a source of immense pride for me and my country,” she affirmed. “Nigeria is a hub of creativity, and I’m honoured to represent that on a global stage.”

The winning collection, Forever Living, was inspired by the fusion of tradition and modernity, celebrated Africa’s rich heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics.

By incorporating intricate craftsmanship, bold colours, and timeless narratives, Idemudia created pieces that resonated with audiences on an emotional and visual level. One piece from the Forever Living Collection that wowed the audience is a vibrant, multicolored Ankara maxi-dress.

It features open latticework details on the sleeves and hemline, adding a modern twist and texture to the traditional print.

The wide sleeves are accentuated with cut-out details, creating a bold yet elegant statement.

Another is a crochet top featuring intricate, square-patterned motifs in a black and mustard-yellow color scheme.

This handcrafted element highlights traditional textile artistry.

The short-sleeved crochet top has a structured yet casual look, ideal for layering or wearing as a standalone statement piece.

The bold geometric patterns add visual interest, creating a striking contrast between the black base and the yellow accents “The collection was about honouring the past while envisioning a bold future,” she explained.

“We wanted to capture the soul of African culture and interpret it through a contemporary lens.” Idemudia’s designs stand out for their authenticity, attention to detail, and unconventional silhouettes.

By incorporating hand-woven textiles and cultural motifs, she creates pieces that are both personal and universally appealing.

“What sets my collection apart is its authenticity and the connection it makes with people. The designs evoke emotion and pride, combining traditional African techniques with innovative silhouettes,” she said.

With this award, Idemudia’s brand is poised for global recognition. She envisions a future where African fashion takes its rightful place on the world stage, breaking stereotypes and defining global trends.
