It is a universal truism that we all face adversity at some point in our lives, and the way we rise to our challenges determines how fulfilled and successful our lives ultimately become.
Samara Ejekam, a 19-year-old girl, was one of the students traumatised by the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the abysmal results and conduct of the examination, scoring 167 out of a possible 400 marks.
However, amiable and with a passion for science and technology, an old student of Edgewood College, Lekki-Lagos, rose above her disappointment to sit the rescheduled UTME, and this time, she proved her true worth, scoring 333 out of the possible 400 marks.
“In my first UTME, I scored 167, which was both traumatising and disappointing, as it didn’t reflect my true capabilities or efforts. However, I remained determined, worked harder, and achieved a score of 333 in the resit,” she said, bubbling with smiles.
With this outstanding result, the 19-year-old with a strong academic record and dedication to studies plans to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos.
On her preparation for the UTME, she said, “I achieved this result through consistent hard work, a well-structured study plan, and perseverance.

“Besides, I made sure I covered the entire syllabus, practiced with past questions, and kept a positive mindset, believing in my ability to succeed. The mock exams at Teesas also helped me gauge my preparedness and identify areas for improvement.”
Samara, who outside academics is usually a quiet person, aspires to build a career in a field where she can apply her skills and knowledge to contribute to technological advancements and solve real-world problems.
Besides, she hopes to become a role model to many other girls shortly.
“I also hope to inspire young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly,” she stated.
Samara reveals that her greatest mentors are her parents and family.
Their unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in my abilities have kept me motivated through the most challenging times.
“I’m deeply grateful for their constant guidance and love. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this result,” she said.
