Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic has passed away at the age of 22.
Mission Austria, the organization behind the national pageant, shared the news in a statement posted on its official Instagram page on Tuesday, September 8 (PH time).
“It is with great shock and deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic,” the organization wrote in German as translated into English.
The organization remembered Sisic and extended its condolences to those closest to her.”Lucia will be remembered as a wonderful young woman. During this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, friends, and everyone who was close to her,” the statement said.
The organization concluded: “Dear Lucia, you will always remain a part of our Miss Austria family. Rest in peace.”The cause of the beauty queen’s death has not been disclosed.
According to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, Sisic had a lifelong heart condition and underwent seven heart surgeries.
There has been no confirmation that her death was related to her heart condition.Back in August 2024, Sisic took to social media to express her gratitude to the Pediatric Cardiology Team that had cared for her over the years.
“Dear Pediatric Cardiology Team ❤️🩺, I would like to express my gratitude. Thanks to the medical professionals and dedicated doctors who, through their tremendous efforts, have repeatedly saved my life, I have been able to overcome many difficult moments and live a fulfilling life,” she posted on her Instagram page.
