The Nigerian Navy cybersecurity team has emerged champion at the 2026 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Cyber Drill Finals, earning recognition for its technical expertise, discipline and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital security.
The competition was organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with SecDojo on October 27, 2026, during the National Cyber Security Conference in Abuja.
The victorious team comprised Lieutenant Commander JE Peter, Lieutenant YS Danladi, Lieutenant MM Huseini, Sub-Lieutenant IB Gaya and Sub-Lieutenant A Adam.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the team demonstrated outstanding cybersecurity capabilities to secure the top position in the national competition.
The exercise tested participants’ abilities in offensive security, application security, threat detection, incident investigation and defensive cyber operations through realistic simulated scenarios.
The competition was designed to assess participants’ ability to identify cyber threats, investigate security incidents and protect information systems against potential attacks.
Navy Chief Commends Victorious Team
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, congratulated the team on its achievement, describing the victory as a testament to the personnel’s discipline, dedication and professionalism.
He urged the officers to maintain the Nigerian Navy’s high professional standards and apply their specialised knowledge to strengthen naval operations and improve maritime security.
The Navy chief also emphasised the importance of developing technical expertise to address emerging security challenges in the digital environment.
Boost for Nigeria’s Cybersecurity Capabilities
The achievement highlights the Nigerian Navy’s growing investment in cybersecurity training and professional development.
As cyber threats continue to pose risks to government institutions, military operations and critical national infrastructure, developing skilled cybersecurity personnel has become increasingly important.
The Navy’s victory demonstrates the value of equipping military personnel with the technical knowledge required to protect sensitive information, secure digital systems and support national defence.
The success is expected to further encourage investment in cybersecurity skills and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to respond to evolving digital threats.
