OAU 400-Level Medical Student Dies Moments Before Final Exam
Adewole Emmanuel, a 400-level medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, Osun State, has died after reportedly collapsing moments before his final session examination.
Emmanuel’s death was announced on Thursday in a statement dated April 22, 2026, by the Ife University Medical Students Association (IFUMSA).
The association announced with deep sorrow the passing of one of its members, describing him as an integral part of the association and a strong pillar of his class.
The association described the deceased as a colleague, friend, roommate, and a Part 4 medical student with a bright future before his passing.
It noted that the incident was painful, stating that the association had lost a promising student and a valued member of its community.
The association urged the public to avoid speculation and respect the privacy of the deceased’s family during the period of mourning.
According to TheCable, a senior member of the association in OAU, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he had not been authorised to speak on the subject, said the student died on Wednesday without any known underlying ailment.
The source disclosed that the student died on Wednesday after collapsing and could not be resuscitated.
He added that the incident occurred while students were preparing to write their final examination for the session.
The source further stated that the student suddenly collapsed within the college premises during the waiting period for the examination and died.
He noted that the development was unfortunate, adding that the deceased had no known medical condition.
The source also confirmed that the family of the deceased had been contacted.
