Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been shortlisted among the top contenders for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award, alongside Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards – Men’s Categories on Thursday, recognising the continent’s top football performers between January 6 and October 15, 2025.

Other nominees in the prestigious Player of the Year category include Cameroon’s Frank Zambo Anguissa, DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele, Gabon’s Denis Bouanga, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Morocco’s Oussama Lamlioui, and the Senegalese duo of Iliman Ndiaye and Pape Matar Sarr. CAF said the awards celebrate outstanding contributions from players, coaches, clubs, and national teams that have shaped African and global football in the review period.

“The impact of players and coaches on the African and global game has been immense, and these nominations reflect those who have made major contributions to football on the continent,” CAF stated.

The selection panel comprised members of CAF’s Technical and Development Committee, experienced coaches, former players, and selected media professionals.

Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was also nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year, following his impressive displays for the Super Eagles and South African club Chippa United.

He will compete against Morocco’s Yassine Bonou, Senegal’s Edouard Mendy, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, and Cameroon’s Andre Onana, among others.

Other award categories include Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year.

CAF’s annual awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious events in African football, will honour players and teams that have made remarkable achievements in both continental and international competitions.
