“Moves are underway to appoint Victor Osimhen as one of the assistant captains of the Super Eagles. According to SCORENigeria, William Ekong has been named the substantive skipper under new coach Eric Chelle, with Moses Simon serving as one of the assistant captains due to his seniority.
However, with Kenneth Omeruo’s injury and limited game time in Turkey, Osimhen is being considered for the assistant captain role. Having made his full international debut in June 2017, Osimhen has become one of the senior players in the team.
He has already demonstrated leadership qualities in the Eric Chelle era, reporting early to training camp in Rwanda and cautioning his teammates about the coach’s demanding nature.
A team official revealed to SCORENigeria that Coach Chelle is counting on Osimhen to get the rest of the players in line, citing a strong bond between the two. Osimhen’s leadership skills, good relationship with the NFF leadership, and commitment to the national cause make him an ideal candidate for the role.”
