Passport And Birth Certificate Outreach For Zimbabweans In South Africa
The Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa has launched a week-long special consular programme to process passport and birth certificate applications, along with other related services for Zimbabweans living in the country, beginning in Mpumalanga Province.
Running from August 26 to 31 in selected areas, the initiative responds to the rising demand for civil documents, according to Consul-General to Johannesburg, Eria Phiri. Said Phiri:
“The consulate wishes to inform Zimbabwean nationals resident in Mpumalanga Province of a mobile consular visit to eMalahleni, and Mbombela in Mpumalanga province from August 26 to August 31.”
He said the first leg of the exercise will take place at Gateway Church on Elizabeth Avenue in eMalahleni’s CBD from August 26 to 28.
In Mbombela, the programme will run at Oewersig Community Hall in the Vintonia area from August 30 to 31.
Phiri added that the Consulate will provide services daily from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM throughout the exercise. Said the Consul-General:
“Please note that this Consular will be carried out using the old passport application systems using passport application forms wherein members of the public will submit forms in Zimbabwe and collect the passport after production in Zimbabwe.
“All Zimbabwean nationals resident in Mpumalanga who require the above consular services should plan to visit the above-mentioned venues between 0830 hours and 1500 hours on the stated dates.
“Please note services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.”
Phiri urged Zimbabweans in Mpumalanga to take advantage of the initiative to process their documents.
He warned those seeking services to be cautious of conmen posing as representatives of the Consulate in Johannesburg or Cape Town, or the Embassy in Pretoria.
Phiri stressed that the Consulate does not engage agents to act on its behalf
