Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has stated that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 presidential election, while stressing that any ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) must be based on a transparent and credible process.
Obi made the remarks during an interview when asked whether he would consider serving as running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if the latter secures the ADC presidential ticket.Responding cautiously, Obi noted that discussions on such an arrangement are premature.
“At this point, we are not at that stage yet. However, if you look at the word he used, it was ‘if,’” he said. The former Labour Party presidential candidate emphasized that his primary focus remains on ensuring integrity in the electoral process, rather than political permutations.
“I can tell you for a fact that I will be on the ballot in 2027. I will only accept the ADC primary if it is through a transparent and credible process,” Obi added.
He further underscored the importance of due process in leadership selection, warning against shortcuts in the political system.
“The process people use to come into office is far more important than what they do afterward.
You cannot jump into a house through the window and then start cleaning the house,” he said.
