The Lagos State Police Command has arrested its officer who, in a viral video, said the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, or any other Igbo man can never be Nigerian President.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, identified the officer as Osumah Frank.

Recall that the officer was filmed saying that Peter Obi or any Igbo person can never become President of Nigeria.

The police spokesperson said the command had begun appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with the established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to her, the remarks made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

She added that the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, had reiterated that all personnel were expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.

The command maintained that wearing the police uniform came with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force.

It also stated that it would not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police.
