PSG Seeks €98 Million from Mbappé in Court Over Image Damage

In a dramatic twist in the ongoing saga between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and their former star player, Kylian Mbappé, the French giants were seen in court on May 12, firmly seeking the cancellation of a €55 million asset freeze imposed by the player. This courtroom showdown adds a new chapter to their complex history, as reported by RMC Sport.

Earlier, in a surprising move, Mbappé had managed to secure a court order in April 2025, freezing €55 million of PSG’s funds, citing unpaid wages and bonuses. However, PSG took a firm stand, arguing the case with a counterclaim. The club insists that it is Mbappé who owes them, rather than the club being in debt to him.

Monday’s hearing unfolded with PSG’s legal team asserting that Mbappé’s evidence was insufficient to justify the massive claim against the club. They contended that there was an understanding reached in the summer of 2023, where both parties verbally agreed that Mbappé, upon his departure without a transfer fee, would relinquish some of his financial dues linked to his expired contract.

In a bold counter-move, PSG claims €98 million from the talented forward, citing reputational damage from his actions. Their statement was clear and assertive: ‘Kylian Mbappé owes PSG money due to the ‘trips’ that caused us reputational damage. The purpose of this lawsuit is not to recover the €98 million but to establish that he owes us money and to challenge the legitimacy of his claim.’

This intense legal battle not only highlights the tensions between the club and its former icon but also underscores the high stakes and emotions involved when football transcends the pitch and enters the legal arena.
