Rilwan Olawale has reportedly been released following his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) over his alleged support for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The development has drawn attention to concerns over freedom of expression and the rights of Nigerians to openly express their political opinions and support candidates of their choice.
Those welcoming Olawale’s release said no Nigerian should face intimidation, harassment or unlawful detention simply for peacefully expressing political views.
They stressed that freedom of expression and the right to participate in political activities are fundamental rights that should be respected and protected regardless of political affiliation.
The development has also renewed calls for security and government institutions to exercise their powers within the limits of the law and avoid actions that could be perceived as attempts to intimidate citizens for their political opinions.
Supporters of Olawale welcomed his release and urged authorities to ensure that Nigerians can freely express their political views without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
