South African govt on high alert over alleged coup plot

The South African authorities have heightened their alert level after receiving intelligence indicating a possible attempt to overthrow the government by force.

 

While presenting her department’s budget to Parliament on Tuesday, Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, revealed this concerning development.

 

According to Ntshavheni, the nation’s security agencies are actively tracking the situation and have introduced precautionary actions.

 

“We’ve identified a potential risk of a coup d’état,” Ntshavheni said. “There are plans and systems in place to counter this and keep South Africans safe.”

 

She reassured both legislators and the general public that, although the political climate remains tense, there is no immediate danger to national security.

 

Ntshavheni emphasized that measures are already in motion to reduce the potential threat, and the administration remains focused on protecting democratic values and maintaining public order.This disclosure arrives at a time of ongoing probes and increased political instability. Citizens are being encouraged to stay vigilant and alert authorities if they notice any unusual or suspicious behavior.
