Rabat – Spain’s Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela Rodríguez, hailed Morocco’s Atlantic initiative launched by King Mohammed VI, describing it as a model for shared development and African solidarity.
In a statement to the Moroccan state news agency MAP, Rodríguez highlighted the King’s vision, which positions Morocco as a key player in stability and shared development across the Atlantic African region. She said the initiative is expected to have a positive impact across the continent by boosting economic exchanges and improving resilience and prosperity for African communities.
She added that Morocco’s Atlantic vision, which brings together countries from the Sahel and the continent’s western coast in a shared development effort, aligns closely with Spain and the European Union’s approach to balanced, cooperative, and humane partnerships.
Rodríguez also noted Morocco’s strategic role in Africa and the Sahel, noting that its geopolitical location and stability make it an ideal partner for Spain and the EU in managing migration flows. She pointed out that both countries share a common history and culture, reflected in a positive migration policy based on dialogue, solidarity, and respect for human rights. She described Morocco as “an indispensable partner and a model for constructive cooperation in the region.”
She also noted the importance of promoting safe, organized, and legal migration, saying that migration should be approached with dignity and sustainable human mobility in mind.
King Mohammed VI’s Atlantic initiative aims to strengthen cooperation among countries along Africa’s Atlantic coast and the Sahel by promoting economic development, regional stability, and resilience. It seeks to create shared opportunities and partnerships that benefit all participating countries.
