Ahead of Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, some Super Eagles stars have shared their thoughts on the game.
As the team rounds off preparations for the big match holding in South Africa, members of the squad have spoken from the team’s camp in Polokwane.
The quartet of Wilfred Ndidi, Calvin Bassey, Terem Moffi, and skipper William Troost-Ekong all spoke about the Eagles’ readiness for the all-important tie.First to speak was Ndidi, who said, “We know where we are at the moment, and these two games are very crucial. But first of all, we focus on the Lesotho one and then look forward to Benin. The most important one right now is the Lesotho game.”
In his own words, Bassey declared, “We just need to remain calm and do what we have to do. I think this is not the first time, for club or country, that any of us have been in high-pressure moments. So I think we’ve got an experienced team to handle situations. It’s just about making sure we do everything right.”
“We (the guys) are really confident about qualifying for the World Cup. We have to do our part and wait for the results of the other teams. So we are really confident things will go our way,” stated Terem Moffi.
Skipper Ekong summed it up: “We remain optimistic. We are going to fight till the end; we have the belief and will never stop believing. Two important games now — Friday is the first one, and afterwards we’ll get back to Nigeria. But for now, we will focus on Lesotho. The boys are in camp, focused, and the spirit is high as well.
“It’s been the same for us all along; we have to win this game. Yeah, it’s good that we’ve seen some opportunities now, more than we saw before. Like I said, we are very optimistic and just focused on the game on Friday,” stated the Eagles’ captain.
