Tems beat Burna Boy, Davido, Chris Brown to win 2025 Grammy Awards
Tems Wins First Individual Grammy Award
Tems won her first individual Grammy Award at the 2025 edition of the global ceremony. Tems took home the award for Best African Music Performance with her hit single “Love Me Jeje”. She beat out Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Davido, Asake, Yemi Alade, and others to emerge victorious.
In her acceptance speech, Tems said, “Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage and giving me this team.” She added, “Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday, and she’s here at her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, Mom, because she’s done so much for me and my brother.”
This win adds to her already impressive Grammy journey. In 2023, Tems received her first Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future’s “Wait For You”, featuring Drake, at the 65th Annual Grammys. For 2025, Tems had a total of eight nominations, with “Love Me JeJe” winning Best African Music Performance. She was also nominated for Best R&B Song with “Burning” and Best Global Music Album with “Born in the Wild.”
Tems, 29, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, has seen a meteoric rise in her career.
