Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described as “significant” over 60 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) who visited him at his office in Accra to declare support for Bawumia to become flagbearer.

According to the former NPP flagbearer, more than half of the number of NPP MPs supporting his bid to lead the party ahead of the 2028 elections indicates his chances to become the next president of Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia said he is excited that the party still has interest in his leadership despite the loss of the previous elections.

“Some of our members of Parliament visited me and it was a very exciting visit. The main issue was to declare their support for me. And I am so happy about the group that has declared their support for me. We have 88 Members of Parliament so it tells you that very significant Members of Parliament have declared their support for me.” Dr. Bawumia said.

Adding that for the party to win the 2028 elections, a lot of work needs to be done.

He maintained that the NPP has better plans for the country so the party should put in every effort to reclaim power in the 2028 elections.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the Members of Parliament for their move and I believe that this is going to be very important because Members of Parliament as you know control the constituencies and so I am very happy for what they have done today. There is a lot of hard work we need to do to support the party and country.” Dr. Bawumia added.

Many NPP MPs and executives have maintained that Dr. Bawumia is the right choice to lead the party in the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, his main contestant, Kennedy Agyapong has raised concerns forcing one candidate on them.
