Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The new JAMB registrar will replace Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term in office will expire on July 31, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment of Segun Aina will make history, as he will become the youngest registrar JAMB has ever appointed.
The presidency said Professor Aina is expected to bring his experience and expertise into the operations of the examination board.
President Tinubu also expressed hope that the new registrar would build on and surpass the achievements recorded by his predecessor.
Professor Oloyede assumed office as JAMB registrar on August 9, 2016.
Who is Professor Segun Aina?
According to the presidency, Professor Aina will turn 40 in July, and his appointment makes him the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
Professor Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security.
He also earned a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University and completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained foundational experience in national admissions administration, contributing to examination reforms.
Professor Aina has over 15 years of post-graduation experience in technology, policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital transition initiatives.
At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering.
Before his appointment as JAMB registrar, Aina served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education.
He has provided expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation in the institutions where he has worked.
Professor Aina is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
