TINUBU VISITS ANAMBRA AMID TIGHT SECURITY, POLICE RESTRICT VEHICULAR MOVEMENT

The Anambra State Police Command has announced a partial restriction of vehicular movement across the state as part of security arrangements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit.

The directive was contained in a brief statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

“The Anambra State Police Command on behalf of other security agencies seeks more cooperation of Ndi Anambra as they welcome His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria to the State today 8th May, 2025,” Ikenga stated.

He further explained, “Consequently, there will be a partial adjustment of vehicular movements within the state. Please bear with us.”

The police command also called for calm and public support during the high-profile visit, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in ensuring public safety.

“The Command also enjoins the good people of Anambra to remain law-abiding and to continue to partner and support the Police and other security agencies in their task of making the State safe for everyone,” Ikenga added.

President Tinubu’s visit to Anambra State is expected to include the commissioning of key infrastructure projects and meetings with political and community stakeholders.

The visit comes amid heightened security concerns following a wave of violent incidents and attacks by unidentified gunmen in Anambra and across the wider South-East region, sparking anxiety among residents.

Authorities have linked the rising insecurity in the region to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group outlawed by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, IPOB has repeatedly denied involvement in any criminal activity within the South-East or elsewhere in Nigeria.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the Anambra State government and security agencies have ramped up joint operations, including targeted raids on suspected criminal enclaves and increased patrols in identified hotspots.
