Top Israeli Officers Face Scrutiny as Reform Process Deepens

Former Operations Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Oded Basiuk has been dismissed from reserve duty by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, over his role in the October 7, 2023, failures.

Zamir summoned several top officers for meetings today, after vowing earlier this month to make “personal decisions” regarding the commanders based on the findings of a probe conducted by an external panel of experts.

Basiuk was replaced as operations chief in July, after announcing his intention to resign.

Meanwhile, among those who were summoned today by Zamir but didn’t show up due to scheduling issues include former intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva and former signals intelligence Unit 8200 commander Brig. Gen. Yossi Sariel. They are set to meet with Zamir in the coming days.

The IDF is set to detail the full list of officers and sanctions, likely in the coming hours.
