Nigerian troops have arrested 14 suspected terrorists during a coordinated security operation in Borno State, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks in the North-East.
The arrests were carried out during intelligence-led operations targeting individuals believed to be involved in terrorism-related activities, including logistics support, espionage, and collaboration with extremist groups operating in the region. Military sources revealed that the suspects were apprehended at different locations while attempting to aid insurgents with supplies and information.
According to security officials, preliminary investigations indicate that some of the suspects were actively involved in transporting goods and essential items to terrorist groups, while others acted as informants within local communities.
The operation forms part of a broader military campaign under ongoing counter-terrorism missions aimed at weakening the operational capacity of groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, which have continued to pose security threats in Borno and surrounding states.
Authorities stated that the success of the operation was largely due to improved intelligence gathering and collaboration between security agencies. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation, with the military promising that those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Borno State remains a major hotspot in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, with recent incidents including attacks, bombings, and military offensives highlighting the persistent security challenges in the region.
Security forces have reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements, urging residents to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing operations.
