Renowned Nigerian journalist and media executive, Mr. Lewis Obi, has passed away.
The distinguished editor, widely regarded as one of the architects of modern Nigerian journalism, died peacefully on January 6, 2026, in Enugu, according to a statement signed by Mr. Ejike Obi on behalf of the Obi Family.
Lewis Obi was celebrated for his exceptional career as a journalist, master editor, and media leader. As Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of African Concord magazine, he played a pivotal role in shaping investigative journalism in Nigeria, mentoring a generation of reporters and setting enduring standards for editorial excellence, integrity, and professionalism in the media industry.
Known for his impeccable character and unwavering commitment to truth, Obi’s influence extended beyond the newsroom. Colleagues describe him as a principled leader whose work ethic, intellectual depth, and belief in the power of well-told stories helped redefine journalistic practice in the country.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a devoted family man, a committed Christian, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family noted that his home reflected the same values that guided his career, fairness, honour, and truth.
A man of broad cultural outlook, Lewis Obi combined a cosmopolitan worldview with deep respect for his Igbo heritage, earning him admiration as a bridge-builder across cultures and generations.
He is survived by his wife and children.
The family said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
