270 Ugandans Return Home from South Africa

More than 270 Ugandan nationals have safely returned home from South Africa as the Ugandan government commenced an evacuation exercise aimed at assisting citizens facing difficult circumstances abroad.

The returnees arrived in Uganda through a coordinated operation involving relevant government agencies and diplomatic officials.

Authorities said the evacuation was organized to support Ugandans who had expressed a desire to return due to economic hardship, legal challenges, or other personal difficulties.

Government officials welcomed the returnees and assured them of assistance through reintegration programmes designed to help them settle back into their communities.

The support is expected to include guidance on employment opportunities, vocational training, and other social services where necessary.

Officials also commended the collaboration between the Ugandan High Commission in South Africa and local authorities for ensuring the safe and orderly return of the affected citizens.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ugandans living abroad and stated that additional evacuation efforts may continue if more citizens require assistance.

The exercise underscores Uganda’s ongoing efforts to provide support for its nationals overseas while encouraging safe and legal migration.
